Brian’s Blue Bouquet
by Marilyn Vix

Who owned the Trans Am? His nerve bucked in his mind. It was a nice gesture. He would just have to figure another way.

Brian turned as the door opened. Standing in the doorway was a man. He looked like Sherry. He had the same blonde hair and blue eyes. He wore jeans, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket. Stubble circled his chin. “Can I help you?”

Brian stammered out, “Is Sherry here?”

The man smiled. “She is.”

“Dad, who is it?” Sherry’s voice shouted behind him.

The man turned. “There is a young man here with a bouquet of flowers. Should I let him in?”

“Sure. He can add them to the pile.”

Sherry’s dad moved aside as Brian walked in the door. All around the living room were assorted vases of flowers. Boxes of candy were sitting on the coffee table. Sherry got up from the couch and came over to Brian. “Are those for me?”

Brian swallowed. “Yes.”

She came up to him, grabbing a bloom. “Thank you. They smell wonderful. I haven’t gotten blue roses today.”

Brian handed her the flowers. “I just wanted to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day.”

Sherry blushed. “I was hoping you’d come over.” She leaned closer to him. “In fact, I’ve been waiting for you to finally tell me you’re interested.” She kissed him slightly on the lips.

Brian felt stunned. “What are all the other flowers for?”

She smiled at Brian. “I just graduated from nursing school.”
