Author JZ Murdock

Author JZ Murdock says he spent the first half of his life afraid of even trying to be a writer. “That was a lofty goal, I wasn’t worthy. Not until my first college English composition teacher told me to just stop worrying about the mechanics so much and all the author hero worship, and just write.”

He has done just that. His writing has encompassed non-fiction and fiction. He is now also shopping around some completed screenplays.  “I was a Technical Writer for years because as a kid I had read Isaac Asimov say that most of the first great Sci Fi writers were Tech Writers for the military. Funny how I ended up in the USAF for a while and then later worked as a Tech Writer after I got my degree.”

One of the great pleasures of writing for JZ is taking the reader on a ride or a journey that they have never taken before—giving them a new way to think about something. Continue reading “Meet the Author: JZ Murdock”

Indies Unlimited Welcomes Lin Robinson to the Team

Indies Unlimited is proud and pleased to announce that multi-talented Lin Robinson will be joining the crew here as a monthly contributor. You may remember Lin from his excellent series here on Indies Unlimited in which he decontructed, dismantled, and otherwise laid waste to some of the more spurious rumors, rules, and false idols of writing wisdom.

Born in Occupied Japan, schooled in Asia, now a 20 year resident of Latin America, Linton Robinson’s status as a born outsider is reflected in his books.

Robinson worked as journalist for years, winning awards and placing articles in top American magazine and newspaper markets. This was followed by a brief career as a photographer, also with credits in top markets. He then moved into mailorder catalogs, with noted success, before switching to newspapers in Mexico and Guatemala.

His syndicated columns “Flesh Wounds” and “Weekend Warrior” were cult favorites in the nineties.

He is currently working on novels and screenplays and doing videos.

Pin the Phrase on the Author (Round 2)

Everyone has gotten a chance to read articles by the IU staff, but could you pick their writing out of a lineup?

Below, you will see lines excerpted from the books of five Indies Unlimited authors. Can you tell which author wrote which line? Bonus points if you also know the book from which the line comes!

Below and to the left are pictures of the IU authors and next to each, a line from a book. The authors are not next to the lines from their own books. Or are they? See if you can mix and match the author with the line. Put your guesses in the comment section below (1. author name, 2. author name, etc.). The winner gets bragging rights.
