The first rays of the morning sun turn George and his old motorboat into a silhouette. The vapor rising from the cold water make it even harder to see him from the western shore.

He’s far enough away that the sound of the motor barely reaches the the few cabins here.

George has something to put in the lake—someplace deep in the lake. He’ll need to make sure it will not be found for a good long while.

He picked a good day for it. This time of the year the lake is pretty much deserted. George got an early start. Nobody is awake this time of the day. Nobody but me.

Sneak Peek: Jacob’s Courage by Charles S. Weinblatt

Jacob's CourageToday we have a sneak peek from Charles S. Weinblatt’s historical fiction book, Jacob’s Courage.

This is a tender coming of age love story of two young Jews when the Nazi war machine enters Austria. Follow lovers Jacob and Rachael from their comfortable Salzburg homes to a decrepit ghetto, from there to a prison camp where they secretly become man and wife. Revel in their excitement as they escape through a tunnel, join the local partisans and fight their Nazi oppressors. Finally ride the fetid train to Auschwitz. Stung by the death of loved-ones, enslaved and starved, the young lovers have nothing to count on but faith, love and courage. From desperation and despair, to unforgettable moments of chaste beauty, Jacob’s Courage examines a constellation of emotions during a time of genocide.

Jacob’s Courage is available at Amazon.com and at Barnes & Noble.com Continue reading “Sneak Peek: Jacob’s Courage by Charles S. Weinblatt”

Sitting in a chair a few feet away, Michelle tried to gently penetrate her barrier of silence. “Hi, I’m Michelle… what should I call you?” but she got the same response the police had: silence, and a wary, wide eyed stare. Continue reading “Story Time: Cycle of Abuse”
