Empirical Spring Writing Contest

Empirical MagazineEmpirical Magazine is now accepting submissions for its Spring Writing Contest. Send in up to three short stories no longer than 5,000 words apiece or up to four poems no longer than two pages each.  Fees are rated by quantity and type of submission and early bird discounts are available. The submissions deadline is May 15th.

2012 Anderbo Self-Published Book Award

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2012 Anderbo Self-Published Book Award.

Any currently-available self-published fiction or nonfiction book or e-book is eligible.

The winner receives $500 cash, announcement on the Anderbo web site and publication of a book-excerpt on anderbo.com.

There is a $20 reading fee. Entries must be postmarked by October 15, 2012.

Week 10 Flash Fiction Competition: Dead Stop

It took nearly a quarter mile to bring the Nightingale Express to a full stop before the body on the tracks. If they hadn’t been on such a long straight stretch and in broad daylight to boot, they’d have gone right over that corpse and maybe never even have known. The brakeman and the engineer get down to investigate and are surprised to discover they both knew the dead man. Who was it? Why is he there?

The Baltimore Review’s Summer Contest

Baltimore Review LogoHeat is the contest theme for the Baltimore Review’s summer issue. They are accepting works in the fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry categories. There is a $10 entry fee.

1st place prize – $300, 2nd place prize $200, 3rd place prize $100. First-place winner will be published. All entries will be considered for publication. The deadline is May 30, 2012.
