Monstrosities of the Midway: Literary Contest

Midway JournalThe Midway Journal wants to see your mysteries, anomalies, and clashing energies. Send them your giant rats, conjoined twins, Fiji mermaids, and bearded ladies. They invite any writing that complicates issues of performance and identity.

Submit: March 5th – May 31st; Fee: $15 per entry.

Prize: $1000 + publication in Midway Journal for a winning poem (or group of poems), story, or essay. The judges are Ana Božičević and Amy King.

Empirical Spring Writing Contest

Empirical MagazineEmpirical Magazine is now accepting submissions for its Spring Writing Contest. Send in up to three short stories no longer than 5,000 words apiece or up to four poems no longer than two pages each.  Fees are rated by quantity and type of submission and early bird discounts are available. The submissions deadline is May 15th.

34th Nimrod Literary Awards

NimrodThe 34th Nimrod Literary Awards is now accepting submissions for the Katherine Anne Porter Prize for Fiction & the Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry.

The prize for first place is $2,000 and publication; the prize for second place is $1,000 and publication.

Postmark Deadline: April 30, 2012. Entry/Subscription Fee: $20 includes both entry fee & a one-year subscription (two issues).
