Amulet is Now Unleashed!

Congratulations to friend and author Nancy Lee Parish! She  shared the news that her long-awaited debut novel is now released and available at Smashwords and Amazon!

“Amulet” is the first in her “DragonBlade” series. She describes the book as an adventure with fantasy elements, most of which she says are not typical in epic fantasies. As Nancy explains it, “I use a wide variety of characters, everything from a stoic inventor/wizard to a burly, gruff, yet kindhearted, axe – wielding farmer who has a soft spot for baby dragons, and just about everything in between. There’s even a mini dachshund who fancies himself fearless and adored by all the ladies. Mixed into the ‘lightness’ are those who live with regret and heartache, and those who would build a better world.”

Meet the Author: Mike D. Cooley

Author Mike D. Cooley

Author Mike Cooley says his writing is action oriented. He likes jumping right into the thick of a story and then “going for broke.” He says he stays away from overly-descriptive scene-setting because that’s not the way he thinks. “I am very visually oriented as well and I like exploring human nature and psychology.”

Mike says he is heavily influenced by writers like Phillip K. Dick, James Tiptree Jr., Harlan Ellison, and Roger Zelazny, although he doesn’t think he writes like any of them.

Mike says many of his stories are very character-centric, and his inspiration comes from everywhere. “Ideas are all around us. I’ve never had a shortage.” Continue reading “Meet the Author: Mike D. Cooley”

Sneak Peek: No Lulluby for Tommy

Today, we get a sneak-peek from Charles Hardman’s book, “No Lulluby for Tommy.”

Tommy has lost his wife, children, job, savings — basically his whole world. Nothing seems to go his way. Trying to change his life, he becomes a poker player. Tommy wins a very heated poker game against the son of a Chicago Mafia kingpin in Lake Tahoe. Then he joins up with the son’s hooker, who knows a few too many dirty little secrets about Chicago. A hit man is sent to kill the woman by the son’s father. After he fails and is killed, she and Tommy are forced to flee to Las Vegas. But the mob has placed a huge bounty on their lives. They team up with the hooker’s pimp and a police detective from Tahoe. Will they outsmart and escape the mobsters or are their lives fated to be ruled by Murphy’s Law?

Nicole Storey is Turned Into a Bean – an Inknbean!

Friend and author Nicole Storey shared some very exciting news: She has signed with Inknbeans Press for her first book, Grimsley Hollow-The Chosen One. Her exact words were, “SQUEE!!!”

She says she still smiles every time she thinks about it and is now in the process of having the e-mail framed. Okay, maybe I added that last part.  Inknbeans is a publishing company with an excellent reputation among indie authors.

I caught up with Nickie while she was out shopping for a new Ferrari (as far as you know). She said, “Am I a lucky girl or what? I know in my heart that I couldn’t have found a better bunch of people to help me take my book to levels that I have not been able to achieve on my own and I am so thankful!”

Nickie is a great friend to fellow authors, and I know she will not forget her friends down here in the trenches, what with Christmas right around the corner. (Ahem)

We wish Nickie the very best success, and look forward to hearing more from her as her work with Inknbeans progresses.
