BBC Radio is now accepting original stories on any subject or theme for the Chris Evans Breakfast Show’s 500 Words competition. Entries can be of any length up to 500 words. Entrants must be between the ages of 5 and 13 and must have the assistance of an adult in order to participate.
Prizes: There are bronze, silver and gold prizes in each category. The winning story will be read live on the radio, and more. See web page for details.

The Sun Magazine publishes essays, interviews, fiction, and poetry. They tend to favor personal writing, but are also looking for provocative pieces on political and cultural issues. They rarely run anything longer than seven thousand words; there’s no minimum length.
The NEA is currently accepting applications for fellowships in prose (fiction and creative nonfiction) from published creative writers to enable recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement.
The Binghamton Center for Writers has opened submissions for the John Gardner Fiction Award which will go to the strongest novel or collection of fiction published in 2015.
