Exhausting, demanding … but you get a blast. That’s what happened to me today. I was facilitator at a workshop organized by the KSP Foundation at their Writers’ Centre in the hills, at the edge of the Perth metropolitan area. Because this blog is read by an international audience, it’s necessary to describe some stuff in more detail than I otherwise would. So let me describe how the Perth foothills – visible for quite a few miles away, and which surround the coastal plain where the city stands – rise from the plateau, and seem green-grey and hazy from a distance. Ski weekend. Sounded like a lot of fun, right? You told them you’d never been on skis in your life.
“It’s easy,” they told you. Easy.
So, you broke your leg. On the beginner’s slope. Your friends told you no one had ever broken a leg on the beginner’s slope before. That does not make you feel better.
Now the Ski Patrol dude is dragging your sorry butt back down to the lodge on this sled doohickey.
Suddenly, he turns back to look at you, and says. . .

Today we’re pleased to announce the winner of the 19th weekly Flash Fiction competition at Indies Unlimited.
The winning entry is rewarded with a special feature here today and a place in our collection of winners which will be published as an e-book at year end.
A total of 18 votes were cast in the contest this week. The winner (with 67% of those votes) is Ed Drury.
The guy on the bike did not notice the girl with the backpack, nor did she see him. It’s not the first time. He didn’t see her at the movies. She didn’t see him in line at the bank. He didn’t see her going down the escalator at the mall as he went up.
In truth, they have crossed paths with each other a hundred times. Today is the hundredth time. The next time they meet, they will remember it always.
The next time they meet something big will happen that changes both their lives forever. The next time will be the 101st time they have met, but the first time either will know it, and the first they will remember.
