For a special fiction issue, The Hudson Review is sponsoring a short story competition. Stories should be 10,000 words and under. They do not publish work that has already been printed elsewhere or that is due to appear in book form in the near future. They do not consider simultaneous submissions, and do not accept electronic submissions. All submissions need to be sent in via U.S. Mail.

Good Housekeeping is looking for stories for their Silver Linings Writing Contest. The entry must be a non-fiction story about a time in your life when something good came from a seemingly bad situation, must be between 1,500 and 2,500 words in length, and not previously published or a finalist for any other writing prize or award.
Library Journal honors the best self-published ebooks in the following genres: Romance, Mystery, Science Fiction, Fantasy. The competition is open to all English-language self-published ebooks. Entries will be evaluated on content, writing quality, and overall quality of production and appearance. There are no restrictions on date of publication. Only digital titles may be submitted.
Rogue Planet Press is currently accepting submissions for its anthology entitled Fall of the Galactic Empire. Stories should be a maximum of 6000 words, and should be space opera, hard science fiction, or poetry featuring gallant space rebels battling oppressive galactic empires.
