Resting MouseThe concept of a computer-free day might seem like a no-brainer to a lot of people. We spend so much time staring at a screen. Still, it cannot be denied that a lot of our social interaction has moved online, most of our business is done on a computer, and financial transactions … is there any other way but the internet?

It’s all too easy. The whole world would rather do their banking in pyjamas, sitting in a comfortable chair at any time at all, including the wee small hours. Keeping in touch with global friends? Not a problem – it’s live, it’s casual and it’s almost free. Stocking up with supplies, getting the latest appliances, and holiday gift-buying are also easiest done at home on the desktop or notebook. Continue reading “Why you need a computer-free day”

The Delmarva Review – Accepting Submissions

The Delmarva Review is encouraging writers to submit their best original short stories, poetry and creative nonfiction for their fifth edition.

The deadline is February 29.

The literary review seeks “compelling and memorable” prose and poetry from all writers, regardless of residence. Submission categories include short fiction, up to 5,000 words, poetry, up to 50 lines each, and creative nonfiction, up to 3,000 words. Writers will be notified by April 2012 if their work has been accepted. Publication will be in October.

Interested writers should follow the submission guidelines on the website.

Over four years, The Delmarva Review has published new prose and poetry from 95 authors. Eighteen poems and stories have been nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize.

Check … check. Testing, one two three testing. Hey, is this mic on? Whoops, sorry for the feedback. Hi all. My name is Jim and I’m not sure how I got here. I was minding my own business, playing around with my blog, when out of nowhere this Stephen Hise character asks me to guest blog on this thing called Indies Unlimited. How did he find me? I mean, aren’t we all going through the Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn thing because we have to? Were we really supposed to garner attention with all that? So, that leads us to where we are today.
