Indies Unlimited LogoOver the short time since its inception, Indies Unlimited has become one of the most heavily trafficked websites for people interested in indie writing, publishing, marketing, and reading.

Naturally, this means we encounter a lot of new folks who have never seen anything quite like Indies Unlimited and who don’t know quite what to make of it.

Canadian Tales of the Fantastic Short Story Competition

red tuque logoRed Tuque Books seeks writers of short fiction for the 2013 Short Story Writing Contest. Looking for elements of the fantastic (science fiction, horror) and stories that are identifiably Canadian. Looking for stories between 1500 and 5000 words.

Prizes:  First place $500.00; Second place $150.00; Third place $100.00

Reading fee: $15 per story (Canadian)

My Year of Reading Indie

At the end of 2012, I mentally perused the books I’d read in the previous twelve months and realized that except for revisiting Anna Karenina and enjoying The Maltese Falcon as part of my community’s Big Reads program, not a single traditionally published title sat among them. That was quite a revelation for this bookworm who once got herself kicked out of a library at closing time and feels a magnetic attraction toward bookstores. Hallowed Ink Press Seeks Submissions

From The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to the most beloved boy in literature whose journey led him to the Deathly Hallows, both terms have been a fantastical, mystical theme used in a wealth of phenomenal literature. Hallowed Ink Press was created to serve as ‘hallowed ground’ for their authors and are currently open to new solicited and unsolicited submissions for 2014. They currently specialize in New Adult and Young Adult literature. Hallowed Ink Press accepts series fiction, stand-alone novels, novellas, poetry, short stories and graphic novels.

Prizes:  Publication

Deadline: Open submissions until novels for 2014 have been selected.
