Walking through the tunnels made her skin crawl. She focused on the light at the other end and just kept moving.
The echoing sounds of her own steps made it seem as if she were being followed, but she knew that was not possible. Everyone else in the world was dead. There would be no oncoming cars, no marauding miscreants.
Still, from time-to-time, she thought she could hear something. Echoes – just echoes. She stopped and turned to confront her fear. From the blackness behind, the sound of footsteps continued…

As arboreal creatures go, koalas are pretty laid back. They never get too stirred up and tend to have a rather philosophical view of things.
Kirby was an exception to this rule. He had an active imagination and a nearly perilous curiosity about the world.
Of course, the other koalas frowned upon such adventurism. Old Kanda would say, “If sitting in a nice spot, chewing eucalyptus, was enough yesterday and the day before, it is good enough for today as well. Leave the rest alone.”

The River Gods is an annual speedboat race down 10 miles of the Tuscahana, a twisting length of water that eventually connects to the Mizzoula.
The boats are capable of speeds much greater than is permitted by the narrow and frequent bends of the river, making this one of the more dangerous races in all watersports.
Perennial contender Mark Mayfield was having the best race of his life and would almost doubtlessly have won. But he saw something happening on the bank as he rounded the final corner and decided he had to act. The ground below might not be considered enemy territory, but it certainly couldn’t be considered anything but hostile.
Colonel Martin had gotten separated from his squadron and had lost his bearings over the North African desert.
With his instrument panel shot to hell and the engine sputtering, Martin knew he didn’t have long to find a place to set his fighter down.
As he dropped lower, he passed over a caravan of nomadic tribesmen. Out here, the locals could be friend or foe. Martin decided on his course of action…
