The little white Terrier acts as the assistant to a wildlife photographer. His keen senses can detect, long before hers, when something interesting is about to happen.

It’s a plan that made perfect sense except for one thing. He’s just too cute. Over the years, she has missed shots of the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, Mothman, and the Easter Bunny. Here he is trying to alert his human to something unusual looming just over the treeline. Once again, she is taking a picture of him instead.

Knowing disaster may strike if he doesn’t act quickly…

The little blonde-haired girl watched as the bear cubs groomed each other.

Disgusting, she thought. But they were occupied, and that would give her the chance she’d been waiting for to sneak into their house and steal back the basket of goodies she was going to take to her grandmother.

What she didn’t know was that someone else was watching her, and he meant to get that basket of goodies. Just the thought of it made him wag his tail in anticipation…

This is Winter Ghost, prince of the Northwoods. He is strong and fast and always vigilant. It must be so, for he is always hunted. Puma, lynx, bobcat, coyote, hawk, and owl have all pursued him.

Today, he follows the deer to a clearing. He sees a human’s hutch and watches as the deer eat food that has been placed on the ground.

The deer have been here before, and feel at ease, but Winter Ghost is cautious. He waits and watches. He hears the clumsy footstep of a human…
