South Loop Review’s 2012 Creative Nonfiction Essay Contest

South Loop Review’s 2012 Creative Nonfiction Essay Contest is open to all nonfiction writers. They encourage submissions in essay, memoir, non-linear narratives and blended genre. The winner receives $1,000 and publication in their September 2012 (Volume 14) issue. There is a $20 submission fee for each entry, which includes a two-year subscription to SLR.

Deadline Date: March 30, 2012, at midnight Central Standard Time.

Writing Exercise Competition Week 5 Voting: The Rendezvous

Once again, the time of choosing is upon us – time to begin voting in this week’s Writing Exercise Competition. On behalf of the IU staff, I want to thank all the entrants for doing such a great job with the writing prompt and the merciless constraints of the exercise.

Winning Writers’ Tom Howard/John H. Reid Short Story Contest

Winning Writers is pleased to announce the 20th annual Tom Howard/John H. Reid Short Story Contest sponsored by Tom Howard Books. Any type of original short story, essay or other work of prose is eligible. Prizes totaling $5,550 will be awarded, including a top prize of $3,000.

Entries are accepted until March 31, 2012 (postmark dates).

The reading fee is $15 per entry.  First prize: $3,000. Second prize: $1,000. Third prize: $400. Fourth prize: $250. There will also be six Most Highly Commended Awards of $150 each. The top 10 entries will be published on the Winning Writers website (over one million page views per year) and announced in Tom Howard Contest News and the Winning Writers Newsletter, a combined audience of over 40,000 readers.

Shoreline Script’s Screenwriting Competition 2012

Shoreline Scripts aims to discover new screenwriting talent from around the world with its with its 2012 Screenwriting Competition. They hope to put the best feature scripts into the hands of the producers and companies that have the means to get them made.

Entry Fee: £25 ($38approx) Early Deadline.  The competition starts on 1st Jan 2012 and closes 18th May 2012.  There are quite a few prizes which are listed on their prize page.
