Open Submissions: Sawmill Magazine

Typecast’s free online magazine, Sawmill, is produced six times a year. Each issue focuses on one branch of the literary tree: fiction, graphic stories, and poetry.  Sawmill has open submissions at this time in fiction and graphic stories.   Per their website, Sawmill does not discriminate against any genre or brand of fiction writing. Please send your fiction submission to [email protected] as a .pdf, .doc, or Pages attachment. Submissions should be 6,500 words or less.

Deadlines are:

For Summer 2012: Open submissions begin on December 1, 2011 and close on March 1, 2012.

For Winter 2013: Open submissions begin on June 1, 2012 and close on September 1, 2012.

Winning Writers’ Sports Poetry & Prose Contest

Winning Writers has announced a new contest seeking today’s best poetry and prose on sports-related themes. They will award $5,000 in prizes in the new Sports Poetry & Prose Contest.  This contest aims to bridge the gap between the worlds of physical culture and literary culture.

The New Letters Literary Awards

New Letters MagazineNew Letters Magazine is now accepting submissions for their 2012 Literary Awards.  These awards include the $1,500 New Letters Prize for Poetry for the best 2012 group of three to six poems; the $1,500 Dorothy Churchill Cappon Prize for the Essay for the 2012 best essay; and the $1,500 Alexander Patterson Cappon Prize for Fiction for the best 2012 short story.

Entry fees are $15 for first entry; $10 for every entry after. Entry fee includes the cost of a one-year subscription, renewal, or gift subscription to New Letters, shipped to any address within the United States.  Enter by May 18, 2012.
