Meet the Author: Linda Hawley

Author Linda Hawley

Author Linda Hawley says her mind is rife with stories. Her trilogy, The Prophecies is but the first that made it to paper. She describes writing as one of the most fulfilling experiences of her life.

She says many of the subplots and undertones of the trilogy came from her own life experiences. Linda reads about five different news sources every day, inside the US and out. She says, “I try to understand the common themes brewing, and from that come up with plots and subplots. I like to keep my stories grounded in things that are real.” Continue reading “Meet the Author: Linda Hawley”

Meet the Author: Shay Fabbro

Author Shay Fabbro

Author Shay Fabbro has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a doctorate in Human Medical Genetics. She is pictured at right, with her husband, following an experiment gone horribly awry. It is possible I may have made up that last part—but she is a PhD and university professor.

Shay says her writing balances action with quieter scenes so the reader really gets a chance to get into a character’s head. She enjoys a good cliffhanger and tends to write those at the ends of her books.

A lot of the inspiration for her writing comes from her dreams. She says, “I have had night terrors since I was a kid and believe me, I have some doozies! But since I had the dream that inspired the Portals of Destiny series, I realized that I could use these nightmares to inspire more books!” That’s a productive use of nightmares. Some people just get bouts of bed-wetting from their nightmares. That’s what I’ve heard. Shut up. Continue reading “Meet the Author: Shay Fabbro”

Meet the Author: Lisa Vandiver

Author Lisa Vandiver

Lisa Vandiver sees herself as a story-teller with a simple and to-the-point style. If the reader has to continually stop reading to go look up words, the author has unwittingly detracted from the flow and pace of the story.

She says, “I’ve been criticized for using simple descriptive words and I’ve been praised for using them. . . I do broaden my language and descriptions in various forms, but, I feel that most readers want to read an entertaining novel for pleasure, not to see how many ‘fancy’ descriptive words the Author knows.” Continue reading “Meet the Author: Lisa Vandiver”

Meet the Author: K.S. Brooks

Author K.S. Brooks

In spite of her youthful appearance, K. S. Brooks has been a writer and award-winning photographer for more than twenty years. Her first novel, Lust for Danger, won her an Honorable Mention in the Jada Press Book of the Year Awards as well as a spot in the “Next Big Thing” tent at the Baltimore Book Festival in Baltimore, Maryland (which is not under any circumstances to be confused with Baltimore, Kentucky). She has also provided feature articles, poetry, and photography for magazines, newspapers, books and other publications both in the U.S. and abroad.

In her writing, she likes to keep things moving, use the right words, and paint the scenes so that readers can share her vision and feel for the story. She says, “I’m told I have excellent flow, and my writing moves very quickly. My style has actually evolved quite a bit, from being pragmatic and impartial to colored by my main character’s attitude.” Continue reading “Meet the Author: K.S. Brooks”
