Friend and author Valerie Douglas just got some exciting news: her latest title, Servant of the Gods just made Amazon’s Hot New Releases list in Fantasy in the US and is in the top 100 in both the US and the UK in Historical Fantasy.
This news comes quickly on the heels of Val’s excellent guest post for Indies Unlimited on the importance of research for writers. Coincidence? You decide!

I started this blog to help indie authors. Indie authors write in every genre. I have friends who write erotica and friends who write some of the most gruesome, disturbing horror imaginable. I have friends who are pretty free with foul language in their writing.
I put these “Meet the Author” features together the way I do for a reason. I like to give a glimpse of the author as a person, their process, and product. Part of it all is putting a face with the name. For me, that makes it more real. However, mild-mannered author Katheryn Lane declined to provide a photo. Knowing what I know about Katheryn, there can only be one reason for this: she’s a superhero. So, for the benefit of advancing the cause, I had our staff artists come up with a likely picture of Katheryn. I assume they got it pretty close, so let’s go with that.
Katheryn writes contemporary ‘sweet’ romance with a lot of plot, but a low heat level. “Even though my first book, The Royal Sheikh is set in the present, I refer to it as being ‘old fashioned’, as it is, in the words of one reviewer, ‘reminiscent of a classical romantic read.’ Many romances that are published nowadays have quite a high heat level and while I don’t disagree with this, I think there’s also a place for romance that closes the bedroom door. I was recently asked to describe the road to publication. The immediate things that came to mind – often confusing, constantly changing, wholly different than anything I’d done before – made me realize that navigating the road to publication is actually quite like…driving in New Jersey. There are a million different routes to take – with a million other people traveling all of them – and any given day could find you either moving at break-neck speed or stuck at a dead-stop. And, also like in Jersey, sometimes you have to turn right to turn left – you have to go in the complete opposite direction you want to in order to get to where you need to be.
