Sneak Peek: Somewhere Over the Rainbow

somewhere over the rainbowToday we have a sneak peek from author Derek Thompson’s memoir, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, I’ve Lost My Damn Mind: A Manic’s Mood Chart.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow will be the first humorous memoir about bipolar by a member of the Millennial Generation-today’s young adults. Blending pop culture references and cyberspeak with psychiatric terms, it combines a funny, conversational tone with a nonlinear narrative structure. The book’s humor, cultural references and Internet origins will appeal to Millennials, now entering their twenties and thirties, as well as younger Gen Xers. More than an account of coming to terms with a mental health condition, it’s a story of being young and feeling lost, dealing with heartbreak and still finding plenty to laugh about, no matter what happens.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow is available on Amazon.com, Amazon UK, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords and other online booksellers.

Sneak Peek: Dissolute Kinship: A 9/11 Road Trip

Today, we feature a sneak peek of David Antrobus’ memoir, Dissolute Kinship: A 9/11 Road Trip.

When David Antrobus set out on a personal, reflective solo road trip from the Pacific Coast of Canada to New York City, he picked a random date: Tuesday, September 11, 2001. This coincidence, despite the horrors of that day, proved oddly serendipitous in the sense of the author’s struggle for understanding of his own relatively small trauma, which he was then only beginning to face.

Evocations of the quiet melancholy of the landscape alongside poignant descriptions of grain elevators, motels, convenience stores and gas stations as he heads eastward across the Canadian Prairies are complemented by the dawning reality of New York City’s wounded presence looming ever nearer. Upon arrival, the author is at first haunted by the visceral horrors that remain just days after the attacks on the World Trade Centre, yet finds unexpected comfort in the people of the city as they relate their own personal trauma stories.

Dissolute Kinship: A 9/11 Road Trip is available through Amazon.com, Amazon UK, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords and other online stores.

Sneak Peek: Dancing in Heaven

Dancing_in_HeavenToday we have a sneak peek from author Christine Grote’s memoir, Dancing in Heaven.

Annie’s parents thought she was a perfectly normal child with bright eyes and a ready smile until she was about nine months old and not sitting up. They soon found out that Annie had been born with profound brain damage, and probably wouldn’t live more than eight years. “Take her home and love her,” the doctors said.

So that’s what they did.

For 51 years.

A testament to the intrinsic value of human life, Dancing in Heaven is the story of Annie’s life, death, and her significance in the lives of those who loved her.

Dancing in Heaven is available at Amazon.com, Amazon UK, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble and other major online retailers.

Congratulations to Author Katherine Mayfield

The Box of DaughterPaul Collins at the Nashua Telegraph says, “Every now and then, a book comes along that’s written in such a compelling and gripping way that the narrative has the power to stay with you long after you’ve read the last page. Such is the case with The Box of Daughter by Maine author Katherine Mayfield.”

But that’s not the only good news for author Katherine Mayfield. Her memoir, The Box of Daughter, is also a finalist in the 2012 Reader’s Favorite Book Awards.

The Box of Daughter is the compelling true story of the author’s struggle to recover from childhood emotional abuse, and her quest to raise her self-esteem and create a more authentic life.

Bullied by her religious mother in childhood, the author pursued a professional acting career in her twenties and thirties, appearing Off-Broadway, in independent films, and on the daytime drama Guiding Light. Entering therapy in her thirties in response to a divorce, she began to unravel the threads of dysfunction in her family. Continue reading “Congratulations to Author Katherine Mayfield”
