Today we get a sneak peek of author Sabrina Sumsion’s first novel, Jasmine: Energy Book 1:
When Jasmine moves to Omaha, Ne with her Colonel father as he works on top secret matters at Offut Air Force Base, she prepares herself for another lonely station. Jasmine meets Yumi, a mysterious girl in Art Class, and her world changes. Jasmine plots to stay in Omaha but the acceptance of Yumi’s housemates is central to her plans. Their rejection surprises her until she realizes they have a secret. For a chance at stability and blossoming love, Jasmine puts herself in harm’s way to rescue Yumi and find the home she’s been searching for since her mother died.
You cannot sleep. You are restless and agitated. Something gnaws away beneath your conscious mind. You put on your coat and go for a walk down the city street.
Without plotting a course, you are drawn to this place. There is a reason you were drawn here. It is the reason you can not sleep. You stop and stare in the window and see. . .
In 250 words or less, tell me a story incorporating the elements in the picture.

Faith is a British writer who, much to my envy, lives in Cyprus, the setting for one of her books. Widely travelled ever since childhood, Faith draws on her globe-trotting and uses her broad experiences and knowledge as backdrops to her novels. The result is immaculate and authentic scene-setting, and her attention to detail is second to none. The result is a clean, crisp, unencumbered, easy and riveting read. She has a wholesome style. The University of Central Florida’s The Florida Review is pleased to announce the guidelines for their 2012 Editors’ Awards in fiction, essay, and poetry.
One First Place winner in each genre will receive publication and $1000; and one finalist in each genre will also receive publication. Submit a story or essay (up to 30 pages) or up to 5 poems. The entry fee of $15 includes a one-year subscription to The Florida Review. The deadline is March 17, 2012.
