Lost in Las VegasEver been to Vegas?

Well, Cardoza Publishing would like to hear about it! Keeping within the spirit and theme of Lost in Las Vegas-trouble, hard luck, good luck, or madcap adventure-they want your craziest Vegas true adventure story, or a fictional story that happened only in the Vegas of your wildest dreams.

Entries should not exceed 3,500 words and should not have been previously published. Winning submissions and selected finalists will be published in the 2012 Cardoza Publishing book: Wild and Crazy Las Vegas Stories.  Cash prizes range from $2500 to $125.  There is no entry fee.  Enter before March 1, 2012.

The Writers Place Poetry Contest

The Writers PlaceThe Writers Place new poetry contest is accepting submissions.   Early submissions must be electronically submitted not later than 1st of February. Final deadline for submissions is February 15th for an additional fee of $5.00 per script.

Standard Submission Fees: for up to 3 poems: $10.00; and multiple submissions (more than 3, not more than 6 poems or 10 pages): $15.00

Prism International’s Short Fiction Contest

University of British ColumbiaThe University of British Columbia is hosting a SHORT FICTION CONTEST in Prism International as part of their Creative Writing Program.  The deadline to enter is  January 27, 2012.

A $2000 grand prize is awarded to the best original, unpublished story (maximum 25 double-spaced pages) and the winner receives publication payment in the Fiction Contest Issue! Two runner-up prizes of $200 dollars are also conferred. Works of translation are eligible.

The entry fee is $28 for one story ($30 if submitting online), and $7 for each additional story. All entrants receive a one-year subscription to PRISM.

And the Winner Is…

Today we’re pleased to announce the winner of the first weekly “Writing Exercise with a Twist” here at Indies Unlimited.  The winning entry is rewarded with a special feature here today (a prize so valuable, it cannot even be calculated in terms of dollars and cents – really), and a place in our collection of winners which will be published as an e-book at year end.  Seventeen entrants received a total of 75 votes, and with nearly 25% of those, the winner is:  Contestant #16 –  Sally Whitney, for her entry, An Inconvenient Journey.
