Author Carol Wyer Joins the Staff of Indies Unlimited

Author Carol Wyer

Carol Wyer has been a Facebook author friend and supporter for a long while. She is witty and funny and multi-talented.  She also flies helicopters, and I need an airborne platform for the laser death ray. I am delighted to welcome Carol to the Indies Unlimited syndicate.

Carol is an ex-teacher and linguist who used to tear around the streets of Casablanca on a VéloSoleX (you may need to look that one up) avoiding donkeys.

Having spent the last two decades trying out all sorts of new challenges such as kick boxing, scuba diving and flying helicopters she has calmed down a little and now is learning to paint, attempting to teach herself Russian (although she doesn’t seem to progress much past ‘dva pivo’ – two beers) and writing a series of novels and articles which take a humorous look at getting older.

She is currently putting the final touches to Surfing in Stilettos, the sequel to the award-winning Mini Skirts and Laughter Lines, much to the dismay of her permanently neglected husband who will once again have to put up with ready-made meals and a dusty house.

The Future is Soon!

In an age where yesterday seems like it was only 24 hours ago, it is almost dizzying to realize that at this very moment, scientists are already working on the problems of tomorrow. Clearly they’ve given up on the problems of today. Undaunted by their failure to deliver on the promised Jetsons-style flying car, science now boldly moves beyond teaching monkeys to smoke and putting sleeves on blankets.

Digital technology has changed the way books are written, published, distributed, purchased, rated, and ignored. Thanks to science, it takes less time than ever before for an aspiring author to become disillusioned. The two things we know about people is that 1.) They do not like the way things are, and 2.) They hate change. This is why science stopped listening to people a long time ago.

Who Knew?

Writing a decent book takes work apparently, I’m gobsmacked. No, really. I mean, you go off for a couple of years Having Adventures, you blog about it as you go, then you tack the blog posts together and call it a book…that should be enough, right?

Then, when you send the book to your favourite editor he writes back, “This is just a series of events.” Well, duh, that’s what I wrote, it’s what happened. He goes on to tell me stuff that should only apply to fiction writers, and moreover, the sort of fiction writers who haven’t read Lin’s Breaking the Rules series. “People like to read about conflict and resolution, you need some more structure and direction and a lot more internal motivation. Collaboration and Cooperation

As you may have heard, I’ve been accused of participating in a recent book collaboration with two other Indies Unlimited authors: Stephen Hise and JD Mader. I’m not prepared to confirm or deny that at this time. What I will say, though, is that one would think collaborating would be a natural thing for writers to do. In my case, when I was twelve-years-old, I received an award for cooperation in summer camp. It was a shiny green ribbon with gold letters on it. I still have it. Okay, perhaps I have issues. I’m a writer, so what did you expect?
