Some Advice On Getting Advice

Before I took that first step into the Indie Publishing world, I vowed to myself that I would always do everything in my power to produce the best work I possibly could. I wanted to be considered a professional author who delivered the goods.

When I am working on any writing project, I always keep that goal in mind.

For me, one way of achieving this goal is to ask for feedback on my work. Once I have written and edited my first draft I send it out to my critique partners. I also do this with cover design. Always Look On the Bright Side of Life

A few weeks ago I was out shopping with my husband when we came across a card. It made my husband guffaw. On it was written:

Dear Optimists,

If you continue to look always on the bright side, you’ll eventually go blind.

Regards

The Pessimists.

It summed us both up perfectly. I always believe something good will happen, while my husband believes that the worst will always occur, and is bemused by my perpetual optimism. Continue reading “Always Look On the Bright Side of Life”

Didn’t Your Mother Tell You?

They’re both the same. What are, you ask? Marriage and writing. They’re really very similar when you think about it. How? Let me count the ways.

First blush: The bright new thing that looks so great at first glance. Everything is rosy, exciting, easy. You can’t wait to experience more of that. It’s so heady, that feeling. You love everyone and they all love you back – or at least that’s the way it feels. All is well with the world.

The honeymoon: You’ve spent quality time together and decided this is going to work out. You’re committed to it, now, no turning back. You’re on a roll. It’s a little more serious, now, but it’s a good feeling to have a definite direction. You’ve run across a few glitches but so far they are minor, nothing that makes you want to quit, or even slow down. Life is good. Things are progressing as they should.

Facebook’s Big Announcement? Social Search is Here … Sort of

Well here we are, a few days since the big Facebook announcement. Has your life changed yet? Yeah, just what I thought.

We talked about Social Media and Search last week and you can find that story here. Facebook sorta did what I was talking about, but the market and the social world were a little underwhelmed by the announcement. Shares of Facebook took a hit after the announcement and as for the social world, well, you’re not quite invited, yet.
