I am pleased to announce that due to popular demand (meaning it is something I just thought up myself) we will be starting a new feature on Indies Unlimited.
Lots of writers have short stories sitting around collecting dust, waiting fruitlessly to be added to an anthology. Why not share those stories with IU readers?
The specifics have been added to the submissions page, but I will restate them here, because I know some of you are clickophobes, fearing that if you click another link on the site a portal to hell will open. I suppose that’s why we’ve only sold like one coffee mug from the Indies Unlimited Gear page. But I digress.
Story Time is an opportunity for writers to showcase their short stories of 1200 words or less. Stories will be published late night on Indies Unlimited. On Sundays, there will be a poll so that readers may vote on their favorite Story Time story of the week. No prizes will be awarded.
Guidelines:
Use the contact form to query the Indies Unlimited staff about participating. Provide your email address, genre, word count, and a one sentence summary of your story. All stories must be suitable for a PG-13 audience. Do not submit more than one story per inquiry. You will be asked to provide your story in a word document, as well as a head/shoulders portrait in an attached jpg no larger than 500kb, and links to your website and Amazon.com author’s page. You should NOT submit stories which have not been polished (edited and proofread) – Indies Unlimited will not accept rough drafts. This is not a venue for critiquing – this is your opportunity to show the public your “writing chops.” Indies Unlimited will reject stories that are not appropriately edited. You must have free and clear rights to the story. Previously published stories are acceptable with full disclosure of when and where they appeared. (see FAQ page, Item #21)
Here is yet another way Indies Unlimited is working to help promote and celebrate Indie authors. So, run up to the attic and get out that box of floppy discs and see if you can find a device that still reads them. Polish ’em up if need be and send those stories our way. Is this a great idea or what? I think I’ll treat myself to a Snapple.
