Queen’s Gold

Hal Thompson is a pretty ordinary guy. A widower who owns his own small business, he’s doing his best to raise his two nearly adult children alone. When they convince him to undergo a hypnotic past-life regression, he is unimpressed that his “memories” reveal the hiding place of ancient Aztec gold. Other people, however, take it very seriously and when his family is threatened, he is forced to plunge into the jungles of Mexico, battling treacherous terrain, lethal wildlife and the haunting feeling of a love that spans centuries. Can he find the gold before it claims more lives? Or will he lose the love of his life … again?
This book is available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords.
Melissa, how did you come up with the title for your book? Does it have any special meaning?
The title is based on the description of the ancient Aztec treasure that the main character hid 500 years ago in his past life; it is the fortune in gold worn by the Aztec queen as she tries to escape the Spanish conquistadores.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The main character, Hal, is my favorite. He’s fairly closed-down since the death of his wife, but luckily is smart enough to not let a once-in-500-years opportunity pass him by. He’s a good guy with a lot of integrity.
Does your book have any underlying theme, message, or moral?
I would not say there’s a moral or message to the story, although I believe past lives are real and hope to de-mystify them (and hypnosis) for most people who have had little experience with either.
What would/could a reader or reviewer say about this book that shows they “get” you as an author?
I like to see my characters grow and change in ways they hadn’t planned on, actually become more than they thought they could be. Any reader who appreciates that is ok in my book!
Give us an excerpted quote from your favorite review of this book:
“Queen’s Gold” is a real page-turner. A word of warning here – don’t start this book at bedtime – you are likely to turn those pages until the morning rooster crows. – Thelma Freedman

Thanks for the book brief. My next-to-be-released in June is also based on a past life, but a completely different kind of story. Stay tuned!
