And now, from Aeryn Crow Part 1:

Chapter 1

The dungeon cell of the spacecraft was pitch-black. Skeletons littered the floor and the smell of urine and feces was overpowering. On the back wall were three sets of shackles. Inhabiting the right and left sets of shackles were the former remains of Platerran prisoners and tattered clothes which by one soft touch would shatter. The middle set of shackles contained a living Platerran female prisoner who was slowly becoming one among the dead. She was on her knees head hung down and her hands were tightly bound in the shackles above her head.

‘I need to get out of here.’ Aeryn Crow thought to herself and then coughed.

She had lost track of how long she was trapped in this oubliette but she knew one way or the other escape was a necessity. The scents had made her sick, and even though she knew she was trapped she held onto her dreams of freedom.

Before she could continue her thoughts the room was illuminated. Aeryn squeezed her eyes shut but the lights penetrated through her closed lids and her eyes seared with pain. This lasted five minutes and when her eyes finally adjusted, she slowly opened them and peered out. Immediately, she wished for the darkness to come back.

The thing standing in front of her had massive green scaly feet with long black claws for toenails. Aeryn looked up and saw that the creature was wearing a pair of black trousers and a white jacket with an insignia on it. The creature was feminine with a vague resemblance to a crocodile. The insignia on the creature’s jacket was of a bleeding human fist with the name Captain Bravra inscribed underneath it.

‘Great. The mark of Platerran haters. No wonder…’ Aeryn thought.

“What do you want with me?” Aeryn asked weakly knowing her question was futile and that this cell was to be the place of her death.

Captain Bravra came face to face with Aeryn and looked directly into her green eyes.

“I want you to be my slave!” she said “A specimen such as yourself is perfect for my entertainment.”

The Captain gave out a disheartening grunt which Aeryn took to be a chuckle.

‘I’m dying here and she wants me as a slave? Talk about a leader’s poor judgment!”

She was disgusted at her captor and wondered why death wouldn’t come soon enough. She knew that even if she was in perfect health she would be no match for the woman standing in front of her. Aeryn took a deep breath and regretted it as another coughing spell took its grip on her. Once she coughed up she stared directly into the black pits of the Captain’s eyes. She shook her head slowly. Never, had she expected to die like this and at only twenty-five years of age. She had been heart-broken, captured, half starved, and sentenced to death but her pride remained unscathed.[subscribe2]
